Annie Lake

Since she could first pick up a pencil, Annie has loved to draw, and developed her love of art at school before progressing to study the subject at advanced level at college.

Having graduated, Annie channelled her artistic talent in her role as art coordinator at a large primary school, coaching teachers on how to teach art. After retiring, the teacher became the student once more and enrolled at Chester College to study watercolour for two years, going on to explore this genre for the best part of a decade before switching to acrylics.

Since moving to Wales in 2006, Annie has become a member of several art societies, including the Cambrian Art Society, Tywyn Arts Group, Aberdyfi Art Society, and more recently Ceredigion Arts Society. Annie has exhibited with the Dyfi Arts Guild for 12 years and Moma Wales in Machynlleth, as well as with the Aberdyfi Arts Society at the Neuadd Dyfi.

Always looking to develop, Annie is currently studying experimental art at Aberystwyth Arts Centre and regularly exhibits with the group. She explains, ‘I explore various techniques using acrylics and mixed media. The course has enabled me to move from being too precise to exploring art in a much freer manner. I now let a painting paint itself, allowing much more freedom of expression.’
