Kate grew up in an artistic environment - her mum was a trained textile designer who taught her many different skills such as patchwork, knitting, embroidery, macrame and batique. Although Kate showed some flair for art (she won a national art competition aged 7) she did not pursue formal art qualifications or a career in this area, instead focusing on the business skills which ultimately enabled her to set up and run ArtWorks. However, the creative itch still emerged throughout her life in small projects and hobbies varying from jewellery making, sketching, collage, woodwork and toy making.
On moving to Wales in 2007, she joined the Aberdyfi Art Society, regularly exhibiting a range of textile embroidery work, but became more involved in the organisation of exhibitions - primarily with the AAS, before founding the Dyfi Arts Guild in Machynlleth and then finally setting up ArtWorks.
Being surrounded by such a variety of talent has inspired Kate to flex her creative muscles once more, and she is delighted to have her new collection of acrylic ink abstracts showcasing at the gallery.
