Becky Thorley Fox

Exhibition: 24 June - 21 July 2017
Preview: 4.00 - 6.00pm Saturday 24 June 2017

Originally from Cheshire, Becky Thorley Fox moved to West Wales after University as she loves exploring its diverse landscape and discovering its wild inhabitants. The focus of her work comes from working in the pure open air, experiencing nature in its many moods and capturing the light and subtle colour changes in real time. Carrying a pochade box and tripod, she is able to paint almost anywhere, often completing paintings in situ or producing small studies to develop in the studio. Becky enjoys spending hours drawing and painting wildlife behavior in the field, filling sketch books as she familiarizes herself with different birds.

“I love the excitement and the challenges of working outdoors; I find subjects to paint are all around me, it’s a matter of choosing where to look and working fast enough to stay true to that first moment that caught my eye”.

Over the last few years she has worked on 2 separate three month artist residencies at Ynys Hir RSPB reserve and painted a wildlife mural that now hangs in Ynys Hir visitor centre. She has exhibited at NEWA and the SWLA open exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London, for the last two years and won the SWLA John Busby Seabird drawing bursary for 2015. She recently held a solo exhibition at Moma Gallery featuring coastal and estuary wildlife paintings.
